Hallo alle,
I thought the article about patriotism in Deutschland was very interesting - albeit extremely sad. I thought it was depressing how the evil and corruption of one group 70 years ago could plague so many future generations who have absolutely nothing to do with it with guilt. Not only does it cause the German people to feel terrified of showing any love for their country, but it brings a deep-rooted shame to all German-borns. Since Nazism had such a definitive impact on the country's identity that the German people are void of any sense of cultural pride - that gap only filled only by shame and guilt.
Piles upon piles of paperwork, neighbors hating each other, and the impact of Nazism on German patriotism today. Overall, not a fun read for Chapter 9. However, reading about Vienna and Austria was toll, and made me excited to visit there someday.
Auf wiedersehen,
Matt
