Kapitel 9 Kultur - Adam Zientarski

It seems very typical that the German people require documentation of every aspect of their life. They like to keep things orderly and this is no exception. It also makes a lot of sense, because in America, people tend to exaggerate the truth on some line items in their resumes'. Being strict on requiring proof of work or ability only seems natural, so while this essay is poking a bit of fun at the German stereotype, it would seem there is very good logic behind it.

The neighbor rules in the second article also show a stark contrast to American society. In America, the rule of thumb is to do first and ask for forgiveness later, as well as to intentionally do things on your property to piss your neighbors off in spite of something else that they did to theirs previously. 1-upping is also a common form of retaliation to your neighbor in America.

I found the kultur sections in the book particularly interesting because as it turns out, a lot of cultural talent came from Austria and not Germany. The way the book makes it sound is that you should visit Wien in place of other German citites if you want a prima Germanic experience.
