AMD 4

Hallo alle,

For this AMD, I watched one of the greatest pieces of cinema of our generation - Rammbock.

For those who aren't familiar with Rammbock (in which case your life is undoubtedly void of meaning), it is a classic zombie flick set in modern Berlin. The story revolves mainly around Michi, a middle-aged (?) dude who is obsessed with his ex-girlfriend but means well, and a plumber's apprentice named Manni, who despite being a central character has a limited number of lines. It is important to note that the movie clocks in at just under an hour, meaning the film has been stripped down to its bare zombie-flick essentials and throws out tedious details such as a thorough exposition, character development, etc.

**SPOILER ALERT**
Perhaps the most touching scene of the movie, in my opinion, was the very end, where Michi stands face to face with his ex-lover Gabi, who is now a zombie. Michi stands and watches as zombie Gabi bull-rushes him and bites him in the neck. The two affectionately embrace under the of marquee of a dramatic orchestral movement, and the camera does a revolving 360 degree shot as Michi turns into a zombie and the credits roll. Stunning.

Apparently, Rammbock means "battering-ram", which is only relevant to the common viewer in a very brief scene where Michi and Manni use a homemade battering ram to knock down a wall. However, a trained film critic knows that the "battering-ram" is really a metaphor for the societal and cultural pressures forced onto the lower socioeconomic classes that are slowly driving them into a cannibalistic revolution.

If you haven't ever seen Rammbock, or even seen it in the past week or two, I strongly urge you to drop whatever you are doing and Netflix that shit. It's masterful cinema.

Masterful.

Auf wiedersehen,
Matt Riemland
