Kultur 11 - Adam Zientarski

The readings for this week's Kultur assignment were very humbling. Up until this chapter, the light-hearted readings have made the German people out to have many odd mannerisms and are very strict in their environmental protection and such-- but they all acted that way together. The readings this week show that the Germans battle with many of the same problems that we experienced in America as a young nation growing. They had a big issue with outsiders (the turks) after reunification just as American's discriminated against the Irish, Poles, and many other European immigrant groups.

They also have regional problems, just like America (except theirs is a little bit less race based than ours). I'm sure there are still some people in the South that think segregation and slavery should still exist and that the southern states should reform the confederacy. This is similar to how some people from East Berlin wish that the Berlin wall still existed.
